Generally speaking, coffee machines can be classified based on their production methods and degree of automation. The following are the main types of machines:
An electric filter coffee machine drips steam or hot water into a coffee pot through a filter filled with coffee grounds. The flavor of filtered coffee is often not as pronounced as coffee brewed in a manual coffee pot, and the brewing time may be slightly longer. However, such machines do not require such strict monitoring.
There are many manual coffee makers to choose from, such as the Mocha coffee maker. This is a stove coffee machine that brews coffee by grinding coffee with steam pressurized boiling water. The typical capacity ranges from a single cup to 12 cups (50 milliliters/2 floz). Mocha coffee pots must be monitored, and the brewing time may be slow, taking three minutes or more depending on the size and type of the stove. Mocha coffee pots are usually made of stainless steel or aluminum, which are very sturdy and durable, and can be used for many years.
The Italian espresso machine uses pressurized water to make high-quality Italian espresso through coffee grounds. It can be manually operated, semi-automatic, or fully automatic, and comes in different price ranges. Professional machines used in cafes and restaurants are usually equipped with steam and hot water sticks as standard, and sometimes also come with other features such as built-in grinders and meters. Some coffee machines have separate grinders equipped with quantizers and tampers to ensure the correct filling amount of the filter.
The filter of the lever type espresso machine is manually filled with coffee powder. Then reconnect the filter to the assembly head on the machine. Then, by pulling the lever, the user can extract a cup of coffee. This is the so-called 'pull rod', which gives baristas more control, but also requires more training.
The semi-automatic (also known as automatic) espresso machine still requires manual filling of the filter, but the water pressure is automatically controlled. This type of coffee machine usually uses button operation, which is easier to use than lever operated machines.
Fully automatic coffee machine, also known as ultra automatic coffee machine, can achieve all automated operations from coffee beans to coffee with just one button press. It can be used for grinding, shaping, processing coffee waste, and automatic cleaning. You can also steam milk or froth it. Although fully automatic coffee machines can be very convenient for self-service, they are usually more expensive than semi-automatic coffee machines and usually require professional maintenance.
Capsule coffee machine and powder coffee machine require users to put a certain amount of coffee in the form of capsules or powder, and then press the button. Although capsule and powder coffee machines are easy to use, the purchase cost of capsules and powder may be high. Due to the fact that capsules are sometimes considered less environmentally friendly, many manufacturers have responded to people's concerns by providing capsule recycling solutions or producing refillable capsules.
